Coles Local Manly features more than 500 entertainment food options, doggo ice cream and large health food range
Coles has opened its latest award-winning Coles Local supermarket format on Sydney’s Manly Beach, tailored to the needs of Manly beachgoers, stocking hundreds of options perfect for a beachside barbecue.
Voted as one of the top 30 food retail stores worldwide to visit in 2020, Coles Local Manly features innovations including ice cream just for dogs, an in-store coffee and fresh juice station, a macaron, mini gelato and Japanese mochi ice cream parlour, and a large health and entertaining range.
The store’s boutique entertainment section is tailored to Manly’s laid-back beachside lifestyle, and has more than 500 local and international specialty cheeses, smoked meats, dips, antipasto, and barbecue meats from gourmet Sydney butcher Field to Fork, elevating the humble beachside barbie to a five-star dining experience.
Coles Local Manly’s product range has also been designed to reflect the high proportion of busy professionals living in the area who shop more regularly than a typical Coles customer, with more than 800 ready-to-eat meals, snacks and salads and 200 vegetarian options designed to make dinner easier.
With Manly over-indexing on dog spending, Coles Local Manly has also come to the party, with frozen pet food ice cream and a scoop & weigh station packed offering tasty canine treats like kangaroo tails and crocodile sausage bites. The growing trend of gourmet pet treats is backed up by Coles customer research showing Aussies have increased spending on their furry friends by 50% in just three years.
Coles Chief Sustainability, Property and Export Officer Thinus Keevé said the store is part of an expansion of the popular Coles Local format in Sydney, following the successful NSW launch of the concept in Rose Bay and Chatswood earlier this year.
“Coles Local supermarkets are designed to meet the needs of local residents, offering a tailored in-store experience with high-quality foods from local bakers, butchers and food producers,” Mr. Keevé said.
“Our new Manly store has in-store innovations that customers may not have seen before, and more than 500 foods that are perfect to enjoy at your beachside picnic or barbecue.”
“Our mission is to be Australia’s most sustainable supermarket, so we’ve implemented market-leading sustainability initiatives including trolleys made from 75% reclaimed plastic, and it’s our ambition that we don’t waste any edible food.”
Coles Local Manly supports local suppliers, sourcing products directly from 35 local butchers, bakers and cafes, including bagels from Sydney’s first true artisan New York bagel maker Brooklyn Bagel Boy, restaurant-quality pasta, salads and meals from Pasta Pantry and artisan sourdough bread, muffins and sweets from Sydney bakery Sonoma.
Coles Local Manly champions sustainability, with a range of in-store innovations designed to cut food waste and reduce environmental impact: trolleys are made from 75% reclaimed plastic, free recycled carry boxes are available in place of bags, unsold food that cannot be donated to food charities is diverted to organic composting and green energy generation, and team member name tags and uniforms also feature part-recycled materials.
Supporting local artists, the new store layout features a mural from Sydney-based artist Katherine Brickman, also known as Greedy Hen, celebrating Manly’s natural beauty and coastal way of life.
“Manly is a real knockout! I love the beauty of the natural environment and the way the local community celebrates coastal living. Getting to take a ferry boat across the harbour to get there is just the beginning of what is always a wonderful time,” Greedy Hen artist Katherine Brickman said.
“I wanted to try to capture the energy and the playful fun of the area. The iconic buildings and Norfolk Pines, the unique wildlife, as well as the energy of the locals revelling in the relaxed beachy lifestyle.”
Coles Local Manly Corso is located at 8-28 The Corso, Manly NSW, open from 7am – 10pm seven days a week.
